The California Supreme Court ruled that court awards to accident victims for past medical expenses must be limited to the amounts actually paid and accepted as payment in full by medical care providers. The decision will save business and government billions each year. Based on David Newdorf's trial strategy and appellate briefing, a federal court ruled that San Francisco's policy of conducting a visual strip search for weapons and drugs before placing new arrestees in the general jail population did not violate the prisoners' rights.
The 6-5 ruling by an en banc panel of judges of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit came in the case of Bull v. City and County of San Francisco.
